Local 325 Members Deliver Toys to Salvation Army

December 27, 2006

Local 325 volunteers its time and truck every year to the Salvation Army Toy Drive in Rockford, Illinois. But this year, when the Local 325 tractor wasn’t working, the Teamsters called on Yellow Transportation for help.

“When our tractor broke down, Yellow was gracious enough to lend us one to get the hundreds of donated toys to the Salvation Army,” said Richard Thompson, Secretary-Treasurer of the Rockford, Illinois-based local. “It was a really great example of the community coming together for a good cause.”

For the past four years, the volunteers have loaded the Local 325 truck and moved the toys from the collection site to the Salvation Army.

“Despite the problem, our driver, Jason Thompson, drove the Yellow tractor with the Teamsters trailer to pick up and drop off the toys on time,” Thompson said. “This just shows that you can always count on the Teamsters.”

The Salvation Army collects thousands of toys in the Rockford area to distribute to approximately 25,000 families.
