Teamsters Applaud Senate Confirmation of National Labor Relations Board Nominees

(WASHINGTON) – The Teamsters Union applauds the Senate’s confirmation of the five National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) nominees, filling all seats on the board for the first time since 2003.

The confirmations also ended the possibility of the board losing a quorum due to the current chairman's’ term expiring on Aug. 27 which would have effectively shut down the board.

“With these confirmations the one body of government whose sole purpose is to protect workers’ rights and enforce their protections under the law has been returned to full strength for the first time in over a decade,” said Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa. “The path to this compromise was not easy – strong leadership in the Senate was the key to finally moving the NLRB forward.”

The board members confirmed include three Democrats and two Republicans. The Democrats are Mark Gaston Pearce, a labor attorney and current NLRB chairman, former AFL-CIO associate general counsel Nancy Schiffer and current NLRB general council Kent Hirozawa.
