Teamsters President James P Hoffa discusses the post-election agenda by Workers Independent News published on 2012-11-02T17:14:23Z “I see us winning and I think we’re going to have a Democrat in the White House and I’m very pleased with that. But it’s been a lot of work, it’s gonna be a close race and I think everybody has to work right until the last moment.” Teamsters President Jim Hoffa. Hoffa says Mitt Romney’s big lie about Jeep production and American Jeep jobs going to China has the stink of desperation. “Well I think it’s a certain desperation that’s setting in to the Romney campaign. To tell a story like that, which has been denied by Chrysler, is absurd and really hurts your credibility.” Hoffa says Romney’s desire to turn the federal emergency agency over to the states would be a disaster in and of itself. “During the campaign Governor Romney said he wants to get rid of FEMA. He actually said that during the debates and he said the states ought to do this. The bill for this, according to the papers, is going to be $50 billion dollars to rebuild the losses that we have in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Maryland. It’s been devastating and only the federal government has the ability to take this on.” And what about the Teamsters post-election agenda? “Number one, the biggest thing is we have to get through this fiscal cliff that’s coming up January 1. But the answer is not to cut Medicare and Medicaid. Those are strictly off-limits. What we need is more money to run this country. We have corporations sitting on trillions of dollars - that’s with a T – and they’re not spending it. We have General Electric that makes billions of dollars in this country and doesn’t even pay income tax. There’s a lot of things that can be done to fix this country. But cutting Social Security for people who have worked all their life is not an answer.” Genre News
