Teamster Appointed To National Metal Trades Committee
At the recent National Metal Trades Convention, Marion (Bubba) Davis, the director of the Teamsters Building Material and Construction Trade Division, was appointed to serve on the Organization Committee by Metal Trades president, James Hart.
“The Teamsters Construction Division currently represents hundreds of members at sites such as Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Hanford Nuclear Reservation, Arnolds Airbase as well as several Port and Shipyards in Washington and Oregon,” Davis said. “However, we are missing out on hundreds more jobs at other shipyards in the Great Lakes Regions and in Texas, Louisiana and others. It’s my goal to identify these sites and work with the local unions to improve our market share within the Metal Trades Department”
The Organization Committee’s other members are: IBEW General President Lonnie Stephenson, Chairman; Tony Iannone, SMART, Secretary and, Monte McAnear, President, Amarillo Texas Metal Trades Council.
According to a press release, the Committee recommended the following actions be adopted which were presented and ratified by the 70th Metal Trades Convention Delegates.
#1 Strongly reaffirm our commitment to multi-craft coalitions when organizing industrial bargaining units
#2 No single affiliate shall organize within the jurisdiction of the Metal Trades Department without the consent of the department President
#3 The Committee encourages each council to review organizing prospects and targets with the department’s general representatives in order to insure that every organizing campaign has a strategic plan and the necessary resources to succeed
#4 The Committee commends the officers and members off the Albuquerque Metal Trades Council for their successful organizing campaign at Kirkland Air Force Base and the new addition of 51 members
#5 The Committee further commends our Federal Employee Bargaining units at Pearl Harbor and Bremerton for substantial membership increases since the last convention. The preservation method for jobs that are already union is organizing.
