Teamsters ask fellow unions to reconsider soda tax stance  Philly.com  ...Teamsters Secretary Daniel Grace sent a letter to the leaders of seven labor organizations in support of Kenney’s three-cent per ounce sugary drinks tax asking them to reconsider in the name of union solidarity. The Teamsters, who represent  drivers in the city whose jobs, Grace says, are at risk if the tax passes. The Gas Workers and the United Food & Commercial Workers have joined the Teamsters on the anti-tax side...

New Jersey lawmakers consider raising minimum wage to $10.10  Philly.com  ...New Jersey employers would have to pay workers a minimum of $10.10 an hour under a new bill being considered by lawmakers. The Democrat-led Senate Labor Committee will consider the bill Monday. The measure would increase the state's current minimum wage from $8.38 an hour to $10.10 an hour in 2017 and increase it annually through 2021...

Rally Tuesday to support paid family leave in Minnesota  Workday Minnesota  ...Supporters of paid family leave for all Minnesotans will rally Tuesday at noon near the state Capitol. The Minnesotans for Paid Family Leave Coalition is organizing the demonstration. “As Minnesotans, we believe in taking care of each other. Lawmakers fail in override bid for ‘paycheck protection’ bill  Daily Star-Journal  ...The “paycheck protection” bill, which returned to the Senate after Gov. Jay Nixon’s veto, failed to draw an override vote. “The Senate demonstrated that when policy is harmful to working families that there are enough senators to stand up and reject the measure, and that’s what you saw,” Sen. Jason Holsman, D-Kansas City, said Friday. The bill amounted to an assault on union workers, some of whom are in low-paid jobs, he said...
