Compton School Workers Vote to Join Teamsters  Teamster.org  ...School workers at four different school locations in the city of Compton, Calif., have voted to join the Teamsters. More than 87 percent of voting workers chose the Teamsters Union. More than 600 classified school workers will become members of Teamsters Local 911 in Bellflower, Calif. The workers serve the Compton Unified School District and the more than 20,000 students that attend Compton public schools... 

Baltimore US Foods Teamsters Extend Pickets to Illinois, New York  Teamster.org  ... Over the last week, Teamsters who work at US Foods distribution facilities in Buffalo, N.Y., and Streator, Ill., refused to cross picket lines extended by Teamsters from Severn, Md., who began an unfair labor practice strike against the company in April. Teamsters from the US Foods Severn location extended picket lines to Buffalo early this morning, after extending lines to Streator late last week...

McKesson’s Golden-Parachute Ratio: 1,000 Workers or One CEO  Bloomberg  ...“The staggering ratio is yet further evidence that McKesson is being run first and foremost for Hammergren, with shareholders, employees and customers left far behind,” said Ken Hall, general secretary-treasurer of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which counts McKesson employees among its members. Port drivers win $5 million class-action lawsuit against trucking companies  Press Telegram  ...Several trucking companies have settled a $5 million class-action lawsuit brought by nearly 400 big-rig drivers who contend they should be classified as employees, not independent contractors. An estimated 12,000 drivers serve the twin ports. Over the past three years, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters have helped organize more than a dozen truck driver strikes at the Los Angeles and Long Beach ports, sometimes slowing down work there...

Natural-Foods Truckers Join Teamsters  Labor Press  ...The 100 drivers at United Natural Foods Inc.’s Hudson Valley distribution center have voted to join Teamsters Local 445, the union announced July 11. The company—the 6th largest grocery wholesaler in the United States, and the largest in the natural and organic sector—opened its Montgomery facility in 2014 largely to supply Whole Foods’ expansion in New York...

The TPP and universal government-run health care were the last two big issues splitting supporters of prospective nominee Hillary Clinton and her last remaining challenger, Sen. London sees mass post-Brexit anti-Tory, anti-austerity, anti-racism protest  RT  ...Several thousand protesters demonstrated in London on Saturday against austerity, racism and the new Tory government. The chamber also is fighting another measure backed by labor unions that would cap hospital CEO pay at $450,000, according to the Associated Press. The Arizona Restaurant Association is challenge voter petition signatures collected for a statewide measure to raise the state’s minimum wage to $12 per hour and offer paid sick leave...

A Step Forward for Fair Pay at McDonald’s  New York Times  ...For the first time, one of several lawsuits filed in recent years accusing McDonald’s of unfair pay practices has been granted federal class-action status, which is often the only practical and affordable way to sue when many people are affected.
