Teamsters Disaster Relief for Louisiana Flooding  Teamster.org  ...Between August 12 and 14, thousands of working families were displaced following severe flooding in Louisiana, including up to 900 Teamster members. By the time the storm was over, more than four trillion gallons of rain had fallen, setting an all time record high for southeast Louisiana and leaving approximately 20,000 people without food or shelter. Despite little national news coverage being given to the devastation, the Teamsters Union has been on the ground providing aid to those in need and raise awareness...

Teamsters File Petition to Represent Allegiant Flight Dispatchers  Teamster.org   ...The International Brotherhood of Teamsters filed a petition with the National Mediation Board (NMB) this afternoon to represent 35 Allegiant Air flight dispatchers, a move that would broaden the relationship between company workers and the union. Just last month, Allegiant pilots - represented by Teamsters Local 1224 - ratified their first union contract... 

Teamsters Hand Bill Outside Starbucks Corporate Headquarters  Teamster.org  ...Teamsters from Local 117 in Tukwila, Wash. conducted a hand billing action at Starbucks corporate headquarters in Seattle on Wednesday, demanding that the company hold its food supplier Taylor Farms accountable for human rights violations at its Tracy, Calif. plant. Teamsters along with Pride at Work and the Martin Luther King County Labor Council, AFL-CIO called out Starbucks for its hypocrisy and its support of a food supplier with a terrible safety and health record...

Teamsters Continue Escalation of Hand Billing at Albertsons Grocery Stores  Teamster.org  ...The International Brotherhood of Teamsters escalated hand billing actions this week outside grocery stores under the Albertsons umbrella, demanding retailers hold their food supplier, Taylor Farms, accountable for a long list of human rights violations or cease purchasing food from the company. More than 50 Teamster locals from around the nation turned out people to hand billings this week...

A 2013 law first required overtime pay for domestic employees who work at least nine hours in one day and 45 hours per week. That law was set to expire at the end of the year...

Chris Christie challenged on NJ minimum wage  App.com  ...Gov. Chris Christie says he isn’t being swayed by end-run threats from Democrats if he vetoes legislation to boost the minimum wage. The state’s lowest-paid workers would earn $10.10 per hour, and $15 per hour by 2021, under Bill S-15. Dane County to consider $15 minimum wage for county workers  Cap Times  ...Dane County supervisors are proposing to phase in a county employee living wage increase over the next six years, with the goal of reaching $15 per hour in 2022. If approved by the county, the measure would raise hourly wages for county workers from about $11.67 per hour to $12.50 in 2017, adding $0.50 per hour each year until it reaches $15 per hour...

U.S. judge rejects Uber's driver expenses settlement  Reuters  ...A U.S. judge on Thursday rejected an attempt by Uber Technologies Inc to settle a class action lawsuit with drivers who claimed they were employees and entitled to expenses. In a case that has been closely watched in Silicon Valley, where many companies use on-demand workers, U.S. District Judge Edward Chen in San Francisco ruled the settlement was not fair or adequate for Uber drivers...
