Teamsters Outraged by Less Than Truckload Company Shuttering its Doors Unannounced  Teamster.org  ...Over 100 families in Minnesota and South Dakota are wondering how they are going to make ends meet after showing up to work yesterday morning at Lakeville Motor Express, a Roseville-based trucking company, only to find a sign on the door saying that the company had permanently closed. Local 120 President Tom Erickson vowed that the union would pursue all legal avenues available to stop this kind of business strategy from working... 

Teamster Pilots, Amerijet Reach Tentative Agreement  Teamster.org  ...Teamster pilots at Amerijet have reached a tentative agreement on a four-year contract with the airline. There are 85 members in the bargaining unit represented by Local 769 in North Miami, Fla. The four-year agreement includes a massive initial increase in base wages for Captains and First Officers of more than 55 to 75 percent, with yearly wage increases on top of the signing boost...

Amazon Air Contractor Aims to Force Striking Pilots to Work  AJOT  ...ABX Air, which flies packages for Amazon.com Inc. and DHL Worldwide Express, asked a federal judge to force striking pilots back to work. About 250 pilots employed by ABX Air, a subsidiary of Air Transport Services Group Inc., are striking to protest alleged staffing shortages at the cargo carrier. ABX Air operates 35 flights a day for Amazon and 45 daily flights for DHL, according to the Airline Professionals Association, Teamsters Local 1224, which represents the pilots...

Teamster Drivers Ratify First Contract With First Transit  Teamster.org  ...Teamster transit and paratransit drivers for First Transit in Cheektowaga, N.Y. ratified their first contract with the company on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016. There are 45 workers in the bargaining unit. The drivers, who serve upstate New York communities including Cuba, N.Y., Olean, N.Y. and Wellsville, N.Y., will be receiving initial wage increases of 15 percent...

City of Kent public works, parks employees seek better pay  Kent Reporter  ...After years of wage freezes to help the city of Kent during rough economic times, public works and parks employees want a higher pay raise than what city negotiators are offering. A couple dozen employees showed up and several spoke during the Nov. 15 City Council meeting to let leaders know they don’t feel appreciated based on offers so far during negotiations with Teamsters Local Union 117 on a new three-year contract for 2017 through 2019...

Teamsters agree not to have any bus strikes before next scheduled meeting  NH1  ...Both parties in the bus strike agreed to reconvene on Dec. 2 after a meeting Tuesday, according to an email by Chris Kemper, the Director of External Communications for First Group, a transport company. The Teamsters acknowledged that there would be no bus strikes before that date...

Pilot strike forces Lufthansa to cancel 876 flights  CNN  ...Lufthansa has canceled 876 flights scheduled for Wednesday because of a planned strike by the German airline's pilots. The airline said that roughly 100,000 passengers would be affected by the cancellations, which include more than 50 intercontinental flights. Lufthansa's pilots say they have gone without a pay rise for more than five years. They are asking for an average annual increase of 3.7%...

Samsung and Panasonic accused over supply chain labour abuses in Malaysia  The Guardian  ...Samsung and Panasonic, two of the world’s leading electronics brands, are facing allegations that workers in their supply chains are being duped, exploited and underpaid in Malaysia. The two companies have launched investigations into allegations of abuse made by Nepalese workers after a Guardian investigation raised multiple concerns about their treatment...

Retail group approves Bangladesh factories as safety concerns persist, report finds  The Guardian  ...An organisation backed by global retailers including Gap, Target and Walmart is giving passing grades to Bangladeshi factories that have yet to implement life-saving safety changes the retailers pledged to put in place following a deadly building collapse in 2013 that killed 1,137 people, according to a new report published Monday...

Video shows underage workers as young as 13 forced to work up to 19 hours a day at Chinese sweatshops  Daily Mail  ...Underage workers as young as 13 are being forced to work around the clock at poor-conditioned clothing factories in China, according to local media. A recent video, taken by undercover journalists, shows young workers sewing and sorting clothes on the assembly lines at different workshops in the city of Changshu, eastern China's Jiangsu province...

Philadelphia prevailing wage law expanded, impact on employers to be determined  Penn Record  ...The new law, which was unanimously passed by the Philadelphia City Council, took effect immediately after the mayor signed the legislation, meaning employers who were not currently paying the prevailing wage needed to find the extra money right away, rather than during a transition period...
