Union reports record-high employment in film and TV  Crain's NY  ...The union of drivers, casting directors and location managers and scouts for the motion picture and television industry had record-high demand for its members this fall. Teamsters Local 817 reported hiring an extra 200 nonmember workers in October for total employment of 1,400 people—the highest in the union's 113-year history...

Local 179 Members Donate to Help the Children of the Lamb's Fold Center in Joliet  Teamsters 179  ...On Friday, December 9, Teamsters Local 179 delivered over $1,100 in toys to the Lamb's Fold Center for Women and Children located in Joliet. Local 179 had been receiving donation from members starting at its membership picnic and at General Membership meetings. USF Holland union stewards Larry Smith and Bill Lefebvre organized a cookout to raise funds as well...

Flowers reported Dec. 9 it has agreed to pay $9 million to settle a class action lawsuit that was filed in September 2012 in federal court in Charlotte, N.C., in which distributors of the company's products contended they were misclassified as independent contractors...

NLRB Issues Complaint Against Resco in Response to USW Charges  PR Newswire  ...The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) issued a complaint against Resco Products Inc. of Tarentum, Pa., alleging that the company committed unfair labor practices by bargaining in bad faith with the USW and illegally implementing unilateral changes in terms and conditions of employment for union members. The complaint comes in response to a series of charges the USW filed against Resco beginning in May...

Pittsburgh Port Authority, bus drivers reach tentative contract agreement again  Post-Gazette  ...The tentative agreement includes the same wage package of 11.25 percent over four years. But it has changes that Steve Palonis, president/​business agent for Local 85 of the Amalgamated Transit Union, didn’t want to discuss until they are presented to members. Mr. Palonis said the union is expected to vote on the contract Dec. 18 at a location to be determined. At the September meeting, about 1,100 members voted against the pact after a raucous meeting...
