Teamsters Denounce Passage of Destructive Anti-Worker Bill in Missouri  Teamster.org  ...The Teamsters Union strongly denounces an anti-worker bill passed by the Missouri legislature and signed by Gov. Eric Greitens today making Missouri a right-to-work-for-less state. The destructive right-to-work law is designed to drive down wages and weaken workers’ bargaining rights. States that have already mandated right to work have lower wages, higher unemployment and poverty levels, and fewer protections for workers than free bargaining states...

Teamsters Appeal to NetJets Customers in Dispute Over Subcontracting and Pay  Teamster.org  ...The Teamsters Airline Division and Local 284 are contacting NetJets customers as part of an effort to publicize their escalating labor dispute over subcontracting critical maintenance and wages. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Teamsters Airline Division and Local 284 represent mechanics, maintenance control, aircraft fuelers, aircraft cleaners and stock clerks...  

Honeywell, Teamsters reach agreement for Twin Cities workers  Star Tribune  ...Teamsters Local 1145 and Honeywell have agreed to a new four-year labor contract that will provide modest wage hikes, paid sick days and some health care assistance to 1,000 Twin Cities workers. The final agreement, which was ratified by a solid majority of union members Saturday, comes after weeks of contentious talks, small contract extensions and worries about possible strikes or lockouts...

Teamsters Local 700 Files Unfair Labor Practice Against Grundy County Sheriff and Grundy County  Teamster.org  ...On Feb. 1, 2017, Teamsters Local 700 filed an unfair labor practice with the Illinois Labor Relations Board against the Grundy County Sheriff and Grundy County (“Employer”) after the Employer stopped providing health insurance for the Grundy County sergeants while the parties are trying to negotiate a new contract. The current contract covering the sergeants expired on Nov. 30, 2015...

City, Teamsters settle sanitation workers dispute  Herald News  ...The city will pay former city sanitation workers a $245,000 settlement after a 10-month-long labor dispute after members represented by Teamsters Local 251 ratified a new three-year contract. The union membership approved the settlement package on Friday. The city workers rejected a $225,000 settlement offer in late January...

Couple Raises $1 million for Drug Treatment Center in Summit County  WKSU  ...A Lake Township couple has raised $1 million that will go toward building a regional drug treatment center based in Summit County. Travis Bornstein says education programs at the center will confront barriers to recovery, such as misconceptions about the nature of addiction and its effect on communities. Bornstein is the head of Teamsters Local No. 24...

Ireland: Tesco workers to walk out of stores on Valentine’s Day in all out strike  The Sun  ...The Mandate trade union said 78 per cent of its 10,000 members voted for the action, which will affect nine stores in Ireland. The strike will continue indefinitely and could hit a further 15 stores when more ballots are completed, the union said. The dispute centres on changes to employment contracts affecting about 250 workers hired before 1996...

South Korea Seeks to Avert Trump Criticism of Free Trade Pact  Bloomberg  ...South Korea’s trade minister said his country will seek to explain the benefits of its free-trade agreement with the U.S. to the Trump administration, as the pact enacted in 2012 comes under fresh scrutiny. U.S. President Donald Trump has already ditched a broader Pacific pact that was not yet ratified by Congress and chided South Korea’s neighbors Japan and China for their trade policies...

US Trade Deficit Last Year Hit Highest Level Since 2012  ABC  ...The U.S. trade deficit narrowed slightly in December, but the improvement wasn't enough to keep the deficit for the entire year from rising to the highest level since 2012. Dozens of Indian workers stranded in Oman, not paid for months  Times of Oman  ...Two dozen Indian workers, the majority of them without valid labour cards, remain stranded at a construction company and have not been paid for months. “We are stranded without salary. For some, nine months salaries are pending and for others it is less than that. We have filed a case with the Ministry of Manpower and have also sought help from the Indian embassy in Oman,” a worker in Kabourah told Times of Oman...

Republican Victory in Missouri Means “Right-to-Work” For Less  In These Times  ...The likelihood the law would be passed after years of lobbying by the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry became clear on Election Day, when Greitens defeated a union-friendly Democratic Party candidate for governor. Greitens and his opponent had been vying to replace retiring Gov. Jay Nixon, an eight-year incumbent who had staunchly resisted the advance of right-to-work legislation during his two terms in the state capital...

As the Montgomery County Council continues to rework its minimum wage bill shot down by Executive Ike Leggett, it faces another obstacle at the state level. Delegate Dereck Davis recently proposed a bill in the Maryland's General Assembly that would block county governments from altering minimum wages, giving the state exclusive control. The goal would be to prevent unfair competition for businesses across jurisdictional lines...

Could California adopt universal healthcare for 39 million people?  SaceBee  ...Repealing Obamacare, without a replacement system, would hit California particularly hard because the state vigorously embraced it to reduce one of the nation's highest medically uninsured rates. How far can protesters go before the government steps in?  Washington Post  ...The protests of 2016, against pipelines and police shootings and a presidential candidate, have sparked lawmakers in eight states to consider bills boosting penalties for unlawful demonstrations. In Washington state, a lawmaker termed some protests “economic terrorism” and introduced a bill that would permit judges to tack on an additional year in jail to a sentence if the protester was “attempting to or causing an economic disruption.”

The United Automobile Workers Local 291 called the strike at 6 a.m. after the union and the company "failed to reach an agreement by the Jan. 29 contract expiration deadline," according to a union news release. A vote on the company's offer failed by a wide margin a day before...

Why Another 21,000 AT&T Workers May Vote for a Strike  Fortune  ...Another 21,000 AT&T workers are expected to authorize a strike in votes this week intended as a show of seriousness at the start of negotiations over a new contract. The current contract covering the wireless retail, call center, and technical workers in 36 states expires on February 11. But despite the strike authorization votes AT&T said it remained committed to finding common ground...
