(CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.) – School bus drivers and monitors who work at Durham School Services here voted last night to join Teamsters Local 327. The 269 workers will join thousands of other Durham employees nationwide already represented by the Teamsters.
From the beginning of the nearly yearlong organizing effort, safety issues have been at the top of the agenda. Drivers and monitors started organizing after a tragic 2016 school bus accident took the lives of six school children.
(WESTMONT, Ill.) – With more than 80 percent voting in favor of union representation, school bus monitors at First Student in Westmont, Ill. have become the newest members of Teamsters Local 777
(CHICAGO, Ill.) – Durham School Services school bus drivers working with the support of ARISE Chicago, Teamsters Local 777, Teamsters Local 50 and the Steering in the Right Direction Coalition have filed 17 individual complaints for lost wages against the National Express subsidiary Durham School Services with the Illinois Department of Labor. National Express is a U.K.-based transportation company, with their North American operations headquartered in Lisle, Ill.
After over a year of fighting the new owners of Cook-DuPage Transportation, National Express, Teamsters Local 727 finally achieved a much-deserved victory when Arbitrator Peter Meyers ruled in favor of the Union. The original grievance that initiated this arbitration process was filed in June 2015 on behalf of D-Van drivers being paid the significantly lower car rate.
Today, Teamsters Passenger Transportation Division Representative and President of Teamsters Local 777 Jim Glimco was joined by a delegation of Teamster members and allies to hand-deliver an important letter to the corporate headquarters of National Express (NEX)/Durham School Services in Lisle, Illinois.
(NEWFANE, N.Y.) – School bus drivers and monitors working for Student Transportation of America (STA) have voted overwhelmingly to join Teamsters Local 449. The 59 workers transport students for the Newfane Central School District
(CARSON, Calif.) – School bus drivers, monitors and mechanics who work at Durham School Services in Carson, Calif. voted by a 2-1 margin to join Teamsters Local 572. The workers will join more than 500 Durham School Services employees already represented by a Teamster contract.
(SOUTH EASTON, Mass.) – After a three-year fight for representation, drivers and monitors with Massachusetts’s North River Collaborative have officially gained recognition as members of Teamsters Local 653 in South Easton, Mass. The 108 workers transport students with special needs and are based in Abington and Rockland.
