John F. Murphy

Vice-President At Large

John F. Murphy has been an International Vice President since 1998, the longest-serving member of the General Executive Board. During his tenure, Murphy has handled some of the most challenging issues that the Teamsters Union has faced, including: chairing the Blue Ribbon Commission that restructured the union’s finances and put the Teamsters on solid financial footing; spearheading merger negotiations with rail unions and currently serves as the Teamsters Rail Conference Director; he serves as co-chair of the Teamsters National 401(k) Plan and a trustee on the union’s employee benefit funds; and he has led the union’s battle to protect retirees’ and members’ pensions. A Teamster since 1969, Murphy has been an officer of Local 122 in Boston since 1980 and became the Secretary-Treasurer in 1984, a position he still holds.
