  • Illinois Central School Bus Workers Join Teamsters Local 777

    (WASHINGTON) – School bus drivers and monitors at Illinois Central School Bus in Aurora and Montgomery, Ill., have voted by an overwhelming 4 to 1 margin to join Teamsters Local 777 in Lyons, Ill. The 92 workers joined together seeking improved safety and working conditions at the nation’s fifth-largest provider of school bus transportation. 

    “It’s great that we won our union and I’m looking forward to a better life for all of us. We need fair pay, sick time and safety issues to be resolved,” said Belarmino Sagols, a driver.

  • Teamsters Strongly Oppose Cuts To Social Security

    (WASHINGTON) —Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa urged President Obama and Congress to reject any proposal to cut Social Security benefits by adopting the chained consumer price index (“chained CPI”) to calculate cost-of-living adjustments.

    The Teamsters oppose the chained CPI for Social Security because it would most hurt the oldest and poorest retirees.

  • Teamster Negotiations With Cook-Illinois Corporation Reach Deadlock

    (Lyons, Ill.) – Teamsters Local 777 and the Cook-Illinois Corporation have reached a deadlock in negotiating a contract for the 270 school bus drivers and monitors who work at Alpha School Bus, a subsidiary of Cook-Illinois. Negotiations have stalled as a result of the company’s unwillingness to move forward on important issues, including public safety and decent working conditions.

  • Teamsters Overwhelmingly Approve Illinois Central Master Agreement

    (WASHINGTON) – Teamsters Local 777 and Teamsters Local 179 members in Illinois have overwhelmingly approved the first-ever master agreement with Illinois Central School Bus, the fifth-largest provider of school bus transportation in the United States.

    The historic agreement improves working conditions and secures job protections for more than 600 Teamsters who work at Illinois Central, and will cover any future Illinois Central workers who join the Teamsters. The contract was ratified by a 3 to 1 margin.
