(WASHINGTON) – The International Brotherhood of Teamsters announced today that Gregory Floyd was appointed to serve as an International Trustee on the General Executive Board. Floyd is the President of Teamsters Local 237 in New York City, the union’s largest local chapter with more than 24,000 members that work in the public sector.

Floyd has been a member of Local 237 for more than 20 years, distinguishing himself by attaining the rank of captain with the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation at just 27 years of age, the youngest ever to be awarded the rank. Floyd was elected President of the local in 2007 after serving in a number of roles including Trustee and Secretary-Treasurer.

“Gregory Floyd is a born leader,” said Teamsters General President James P. Hoffa. “He has a record of excellence that is second to none as President of Teamsters Local 237, negotiating strong contracts and navigating the difficult waters of the New York City public sector. I have no doubt that Brother Floyd will continue his success as a member of the General Executive Board.”

Floyd also serves as vice president of the New York State AFL-CIO and the New York City Central Labor Council, Secretary of the Municipal Labor Committee, Trustee of the New York City Employees Retirement System and as a Recording Secretary of Teamsters Joint Council 16.

“I would like to thank President Hoffa and the entire General Executive Board for this honor,” Floyd said. “I am ready to get to work so that we can make sure working men and women continue to have a strong advocate in the workplace.”
