Teamsters Deliver At Mt. Diablo

On Dec. 1, the Mt. Diablo Unified School District Teamsters bargaining committee reached a tentative agreement with the District, securing improvements to health care, full-time health care benefits for four-hour employees, and new retiree medical benefits for employees retiring with five years of service – all this on top of base wage increases over a two-year term.

“As Teamsters, we have the confidence to stand together,” said Dave Tomason, a tradesman and 14-year MDUSD employee. “Part-time workers can now afford benefits and we are proud of our strong Teamster contract.”

His coworker Noven Feria, a 16-year MDUSD employee and lead custodian, agreed.

“When we first became Teamsters in 2014, Local 1 said we should give up because healthcare could never be changed. We proved we could win when we got 80/20 back. This year Local 1 again settled for less. Teamsters lead the way,” Feria said.

The “new Local 1” settled for less in October. But Teamsters 856 stood strong, fought and won a better contract. We deserve the same strong representation here at WCCUSD.
