Young Women Learn About the Teamsters

Teamsters Local 25 Takes Part in the Massachusetts Girls in Trades Conference

More than 400 young women recently learned what it’s like to be a Teamster. The students from 22 vocational high schools received valuable career advice from Teamsters Local 25 in Boston at the first ever Massachusetts Girls in Trades Conference and Career Fair. It was there that they learned about what it’s like to work in construction and commercial driving occupations.

Teamsters Local 25 is a big supporter of more women and minorities joining the trades, and the local union set up a booth at the conference to provide information and networking opportunities. The Teamsters were among a number of apprenticeship programs and trade unions participating in the conference.

“We are happy to take part in this event to talk with young people, introduce them to the Teamsters and help with their career questions,” said Teamsters Local 25 President Sean O’Brien. “The young people of this country are the future of our union; it’s particularly exciting to see young women interested in a future in the trades, and for us to be able to help support those goals.”
