(SAN FRANCISCO) –– Teamsters Joint Council 7 is proud to endorse Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom for governor of California.

“Gavin Newsom has the experience, knowledge and leadership to move California forward. He is a tireless advocate for workers, and has been a friend of the Teamsters since his days as a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. We can think of no one better positioned to lead our great state,” said Rome Aloise, President of Teamsters Joint Council 7.

Newsom has always been committed to creating good jobs, lifting working families, growing manufacturing and creating economic opportunity. As mayor, Newsom played a pivotal role in making San Francisco into a center of innovation and economic development, creating good union jobs. His work as mayor led San Francisco to having one of the highest minimum wages in the nation, along with universal paid family leave and universal child care. His long record of creating progressive policies that benefit workers will continue into his role as governor.

“Whether he was meeting with Teamster solid waste and recycling workers, parking lot attendants, or talking to Teamster leaders about how to protect and grow jobs in the face of automation, Newsom has always stood by Teamsters and we stand by him. We look forward to Gavin Newsom becoming our next governor,” Aloise said.

Teamsters Joint Council 7 represents 100,000 working men and women in 22 local unions in Northern California, the Central Valley and Northern Nevada.

Founded in 1903, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters represents 1.4 million hardworking men and women in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Visit www.teamster.org for more information.
