It's not just about red states and blue states, it's not about public sector versus private sector workers, and it's not about any of the other propaganda that gets thrown around to divide Americans. It's about all of us. We are one, and we are coming together in L.A. to take the offensive!
This is a national fight that transcends statehouses and boardrooms, and we won't stand by while the billionaires, executives, bankers and politicians come and take what little remains for American workers. We are taking the fight to them.
Saturday, March 26 at 10AM, thousands of hard working Angelenos and their families will hit the streets, gathering at the L.A. Convention Center at 12th and Figueroa and marching through the heart of downtown to a massive rally in Pershing Square. We will raise the volume at stops along the way, so that the nation hears the voices of individual workers and their struggles. The fight has just begun. Next week, on April 4th, the 43rd anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., there will be demonstrations in major cities across the country. It bears noting that on that tragic day in 1968, Dr. King was in Memphis to support waste workers who were organizing to demand the respect and justice. In Los Angeles on Saturday, we too will be calling for justice, dignity and respect for waste workers. And for port drivers. And for grocery store workers. And for teachers. We will be fighting for the rights of every American worker, private or public, to bargain collectively for better wages, benefits and working conditions.
This fight is as much about our communities as it is our jobs. The same banksters and corporadoes who are sending our jobs overseas are telling us America is broke. They destroy our communities and then call foul American workers are fed up and are taking a stand!
This Saturday in Los Angeles will be the biggest demonstration outside the Midwest, but it won't be the last. Join us in this fight, and be prepared for a long spring and summer.
All over the world people have been standing up and standing together for a better life for themselves, their families and their neighbors and now it is our turn. Labor leaders, religious leaders, environmental advocates and even a few politicians who really give a damn about America's middle class are pushing back. We need you with us. We want you with us.
