Praxair Posts Profits, Misleads Employees

Despite a sluggish economy, Praxair Inc. reported an 8.8 percent increase in first quarter earnings this week, even as the company does all it can to undermine its hardworking Teamsters employees.

In March 2001, Praxair, a nationwide chemical and gasoline transporter, deliberately misled officials at Teamsters Local 407 in Cleveland, Ohio, in an effort to rescind the collective bargaining agreement and force Teamsters members to work non-union at its new facility.

Praxair's actions could potentially reduce the Cleveland area bargaining unit by nearly half its members.

"At some point you have to ask these companies, 'How much is enough?' said Alex Adams, President of Local 407 in Cleveland, Ohio. "This company netted well over $124 million dollars over this time last year and they still attack their employees. We won't stand for it.

The Tankhaul Division and the Teamsters Legal Department are aware of the situation and are working with Local 407 to take the appropriate actions in restoring Teamsters membership to the transferred employees.
