Winter Park, Florida Police Officers Join Teamsters

Police officers in Winter Park voted overwhelmingly to join the Teamsters. The results of Tuesday’s election were 32-18. The officers will be members of Teamsters Local 385 in Orlando. There are 67 officers in the bargaining unit.

The Winter Park officers are the latest group of Florida law enforcement officers to join the Teamsters. Monroe County Corrections officers and Panama City police officers also recently voted to join the Teamsters.

Mike Stapleton, President of Local 385, said there has been a lot of word of mouth in Florida about the increasing number of police departments joining the Teamsters.

“The bargaining units that have Teamsters’ representation in Florida sell themselves,” Stapleton said. “Winter Park is right next door to Longwood, and those officers are Teamsters. In Winter Park, all the officers had to do was look right next door at the Longwood contract, and the protection those officers have regarding arbitrary concessions.”

The election results were expected to be certified later this month.

Founded in 1903, the Teamsters Union represents more than 1.4 million hardworking men and women in the United States and Canada.
