ExpressJet Stock Clerks Join Teamsters

Teamstes (Washington) – Ninety-one stock clerks at ExpressJet Airlines voted 55-7 to join the Teamsters Union, Teamsters Airline Division Director Capt. David Bourne announced today.

The victory is the first for the Teamsters Airline Division this year and falls on the heels of an announcement that ExpressJet Airlines is merging with SkyWest Corporation and its wholly owned subsidiary, Atlantic Southeast Airlines. Nearly 600 Atlantic Southeast Airlines mechanics and related workers voted to join the Teamsters last year in a historic election.

“More and more aviation workers are seeking union representation because the nature of airline industry is volatile at best,” Bourne said. “I applaud these 91 workers for coming together and forming a union. Their actions show courage and strength during a time of uncertainty and turbulence.”

The workers sought union representation for job protection, respect at work and to end favoritism in the workplace.

“Thanks to the Teamsters, our collective voice will be strong,” said Gordon Black, an ExpressJet materials specialist. “We will be heard and we will have the opportunity to make ExpressJet a better company.”

Founded in 1903, the Teamsters Union represents 1.4 million hardworking men and women throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
