Joint Council 25 Women’s Committee Partners With American Cancer Society

The Teamsters Joint Council 25 Women’s Committee has partnered with the American Cancer Society (ACS) to help fight breast cancer and support those living with the disease.

Teamsters and their families from across Joint Council 25’s local affiliates are encouraged to join the Women’s Committee at the Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Hodges Park in Park Ridge.

Registration for the 3.1-mile walk is $25 and includes an event T-shirt. Participants also are encouraged to raise additional money.

“Last year, we raised more than $25,000 in the fight against breast cancer, and we want to do even more this year,” said Women’s Committee President Debra Simmons-Peterson. “So many of us have been affected by this disease in one way or another, and the Women’s Committee wants to do its part to help find a cure and help those who are battling breast cancer every day.”

In 2012, ACS held 18 Making Strides events throughout Illinois, raising more than $2 million for breast cancer research and outreach. Grace Catalano of the ACS, who spoke at the Women’s Committee’s general membership meeting on Feb. 9, said the organization aims to have 500 walkers and raise $50,000 for the May 4 event.

“I have no doubt that the Teamsters are going to help the ACS meet and exceed their goals for this walk,” said John T. Coli, President of Joint Council 25. “We encourage everyone to get involved and join us on May 4. Together we truly can make a difference.”
