AMFA – Too Weak And Small To Succeed At AA
The Teamsters have repeatedly demonstrated through their actions and words that their commitment to our effort to bring change to AA is real. In a desperate plea for cards, AMFA is trying to bring back the idea that the Teamsters and the TWU are somehow in cahoots with each other – a conspiracy theory that was put to rest many months ago. Anyone who’s seen the TWU’s latest vile and dishonest attacks against the Teamsters has to wonder how AMFA still holds on to this absurd notion. This shows once again that AMFA is simply too small and too weak to compete in this campaign, much less actually represent us at the world’s largest airline.
With a mere 2,600 members, no history of ever negotiating a pension plan, no strike fund, and virtually no resources, AMFA is too tiny and ill-equipped to represent AA mechanics and related. We face very real challenges and serious threats to our craft as AA tries to squeeze workers in its merger with US Airways. We cannot afford to entertain silly conspiracy theories about the Teamsters and we absolutely cannot afford to entertain the idea of bringing in a weak, failing association to take on a colossal airline. We’re already extremely vulnerable under the TWU’s weak representation and will be even more so under AMFA.
If it sounds desperate for AMFA to ask you to sign one of their cards even if you support the Teamsters, that’s because they are desperate. They are a failed experiment and hanging on by a thread. Is that who we want representing us at the New American? Our jobs are on the line and the Teamsters are the only union with the clout and resources to protect us and make a real difference at AA. The Teamsters have the vision and strength to build one great member-driven airline mechanics union with awesome power to fight for our craft.
Ask AMFA what it actually thinks it can accomplish at AA. Then sign a Teamster card and let’s move our profession forward.
