Video & Important Update on Our Election Filing!

A lot has happened since we filed our petition for an election with the National Mediation Board on Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. Right after we filed, a group of AA mechanics from around the country held a press conference at the Teamster Headquarters in Washington, D.C. to announce our filing. This press conference gave us the chance to clearly state to the public our strong reasons for the change we need at AA.

Later in the afternoon on Tuesday we learned that AA had filed the voter eligibility list with the NMB. It is not unusual for a company to submit their eligibility list quickly because once that list is submitted it cuts off all unions' ability to submit cards and keep building to meet the 50 percent plus one showing of interest. In addition, once the company submits the eligibility list, other unions are prevented from intervening in the election.

Then, yesterday morning, we learned that AMFA had made a partial filing late on Tuesday – they filed an application for election but did not submit actual cards or let the other parties know they had filed, which is required by NMB rules. This matter is now in the hands of the NMB and we don't know if the agency will accept AMFA’s filing. AMFA seems to be doing a lot of hand-wringing now and blaming other groups for their failure to respond promptly to our filing. They are complaining that other parties may have blocked them from being on the ballot, but the truth is AMFA was caught unprepared and has no one to blame but itself.

Working with the Teamsters, we are carefully reviewing the company’s eligibility list and will keep you updated as we move through the election process.
