IBT Filing Prompts NMB to Investigate AA’s Inclusion of Non-Mechanic & Related Workers on List
This week, the Teamsters filed over 1,500 challenges to names that the company improperly added to the eligibility list. In its attempt to deny us a chance to vote for strong Teamster representation, American Airlines included the names of hundreds of workers who perform primarily fleet service job duties. Thanks to the Teamsters’ filing, the NMB has now ordered the company to provide evidence for why such workers should be included in our election.

As the Board states, “The Investigators hereby direct the Carrier to provide declarations and personnel record documentation regarding all challenges and objections pertaining to employee status as members of the Mechanics and Related craft or class. In particular, the Investigators require the Carrier, pursuant to NMB Representation Manual Section 9.212, to perform a preponderance check for all Fleet Service Clerks, Fleet Service Clerks Lav Service, and Fleet Service Lav Service Crew Chiefs whose names appear on the List.”
This is good news for us as we push forward to win the industry-leading Teamster representation our craft needs at AA. It’s important that only those of us who belong to the mechanics and related craft are eligible to vote in our election. We’ve been working hard to show that many of the employees included on the company list spend a preponderance of their workday doing jobs that do not fall within the scope of our craft.
The deadline for responding to challenges is August 6. We are hopeful that after that date the NMB will makes its decision and let us vote.
