Republic Waste Workers from Local 728 Ratify First Contract
Waste workers employed by Republic Services near Atlanta have ratified their first contract, which boosts wages and on-the-job protections.
Workers unanimously ratified the contract on August 11. About 50 workers are employed at the company in McDonough, Georgia.
“The contract includes protections against company favoritism and it provides breakdown pay, which has been an issue since their trucks frequently break down,” said Eric Robertson, a Business Agent with Local 728 in Atlanta.
The contract also provides wage increases, a grievance procedure and protections against illegal, excessive forced overtime.
“This contract is about all of us getting recognized for the work we do, and getting our just due respect,” said Mondrez Flemister, a roll-off driver who has worked at the company for six years.
