By a nearly 3-1 margin, drivers at Iron Mountain in Pico Rivera, California voted on Thursday, June 12, 2014 to join Teamsters Local 986.

The drivers pick up information-sensitive documents at locations and shred them onsite or take them back to the company for shredding. There are 63 drivers in the bargaining unit.

“For a long time, these drivers have been seeking fair wages, improved benefits and getting treated with the respect and dignity that they deserve,” said Chris Griswold, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 986 in South El Monte, California. “Now, we will work hard to help negotiate a contract that addresses all their concerns.”

This victory follows recent organizing wins at Iron Mountain locations in Oakland and Sacramento, in California, and in Chicago and Atlanta.

“The workers remained united and strong,” said Ron Seamans, Jr., Local 986 organizer. “I want to thank the International Union and organizer Mike Parker, and Ben Speight, organizer at Local 728 in Atlanta, for help with this campaign.”
