Negotiations for Teamsters First Student Contract to Begin January 27
(click here for a PDF of the printed version of this newsletter)
We hope you enjoyed the holiday season. As you know, your collective bargaining agreement with First Student expires on March 31, 2015. Employees at First Student made history when they voted overwhelmingly to ratify a national master agreement on June 1, 2011, and it is time to renegotiate that agreement.
The first round of negotiations is scheduled on January 27-28, 2015. We may need another round of negotiations after those dates. When a tentative agreement is reached, the Teamsters Union will notify you.
The tentative agreement will be presented to local unions that represent First Student employees. If the representatives of the local unions endorse the tentative agreement, it will clear the way for First Student Teamsters to vote on the agreement. Prior to voting, you will be given information about the agreement and you will have an opportunity to have your questions answered.
In the meantime, the union has set up a web page for you to get the latest information. Please visit www.teamster.org/FirstStudent for regular updates, or text FIRST to 86466 to join the Teamsters First Student Network so you can receive instant updates by text. Please note that standard message rates from your carrier may apply.
The current agreement covers more than 21,000 First Student employees, and it provided language from which to build upon. It is the first of its kind in the busing industry. We made history in 2011 and we will continue to make history by negotiating a second agreement that will protect the interests of you and the more than 21,000 other First Student Teamsters.
Thank you for your continued support.
