(LAS VEGAS) – Today, Teamsters Local 986 launched an unfair labor practice strike against the SLS Hotel and Casino for multiple violations aimed at preventing its valet parking attendants from exercising their federally protected right to form a union.

“The picket signs went up at 4 a.m. and we will stay here until the SLS management stops breaking the law and respects the workers’ right to form a union,” said Chris Griswold, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 986. “Other unions are honoring our picket lines and the workers have strong community support.”

Management has committed several unfair labor practices, including interrogation of workers who support the union, threatening to outsource their jobs, threatening to reduce their pay and benefits and other violations. Management has fired three workers for supporting the organizing campaign.

The workers are united and strong. They have submitted a petition requesting the employer to be neutral during the organizing process, but SLS management continues to create obstacles instead of working with the employees like they have for other SLS workers.

The workers have the support and backing of Culinary Union Local 226, which represents many workers at SLS.
