Teamsters Local 2011 has won a class-action grievance against the Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) regarding the use of their personal vehicles when required to travel from one worksite to another in the South Florida area.

The grievance was a result of officers arriving at their work areas at Opa-locka, North Miami and Hollywood Work Release Centers and then being reassigned to the South Florida Reception Center. Many of these officers were required to travel without the use of a state-owned vehicle and incurred personal cost (mileage expense along with tolls).

“We filed this grievance in order to correct what was clearly a business-related expense performed as a requirement of the FDOC,” said Les Cantrell, FDOC statewide coordinator for Teamsters Local 2011.

As a result of the class-action grievance, impacted officers from the following work areas will be reimbursed for their expense: Miami North Community Release Center      (11 officers); Hollywood Community Release Center (9 officers), and Opa-locka Community Release Center (9 officers).

“This is another example of how the local union is fighting for workplace rights on behalf of all of our members at the FDOC,” said Ken Wood, Trustee of Local 2011 and President of Joint Council 75.
