On June 10, several representatives from various Teamster divisions and departments joined Local 988 in Houston, Texas as they hosted their first Annual Steward Conference. This conference expanded on the traditional steward seminar by allowing stewards to tailor their learning experience to the specific needs and industries.

With roughly 80 percent of stewards in attendance from UPS, the conference focused in particular on Package Division issues.

The conference was comprised of multiple breakout sessions, allowing participants to choose from topics covering steward development including “Stewards 101” and “Raising the Bar: Stewarding at Local 988.” Industry-specific workshops included a UPS National Master Agreement/Southern Region Supplement Update.

“The one-day conference was a huge success with over 115 registered stewards that had the opportunity to network, enhance their skills, and acquire more tools to make a stronger impact in their workplaces,” said Robert Mele, President of Local 988.
