Probation officers and youth counselors working in Kane County, Ill., are conducting an unfair labor practice (ULP) strike starting today, in order to protest the lack of progress in negotiations and the ULP.

The workers, with bachelor’s degrees and higher, have kept working despite their employer, the 16th Judicial Circuit Court, falling short on providing salary step increases that were planned to occur last December.

“Our members who are highly trained professionals deserve fair pay for the indispensable type of work they do for the community,” said Dominic Romanazzi, the President of Local 330 which has represented the unit for over two decades.

“We urge our neighbors and friends in the community to come out and support us,” Romanazzi said.

The workers began their strike this morning at: St. Charles Facility: 37W777 IL Route 38, St. Charles, IL 60170; Elgin Facility: 113 S. Grove Street, Elgin, IL  60120;  Aurora Facility: 1330 N. Highland, Aurora, IL 60506; and the Juvenile Justice Center Facility: 37W655 Route 38, St. Charles, IL 60175
