Teamsters, AMR Reach Tentative Agreement
(SEATTLE) – The union representing EMT’s and paramedics at American Medical Response (AMR) has reached a tentative agreement on a new contract with the employer.
Teamsters Local 763 had suspended a strike deadline scheduled for noon Friday, Dec. 21, to allow negotiations to continue.
“After coming to the brink of a strike with an enormous impact on ambulance service for so many communities, we are gratified that our bargaining team and AMR were able to reach a tentative agreement today,” said Liz Brown, Teamsters Local 763 business agent. “This means the holiday season will not be marred by an interruption of critical health services.”
Details of the tentative agreement will not be released until they can be shared with the union’s members.
Teamsters Local 763 represents 450 EMT’s and paramedics at AMR’s Seattle operation. The private corporation provides ambulance transport services to the city of Seattle, as well as other fire departments and health care institutions around the Puget Sound Region.
“We always believed we could achieve a peaceful resolution if we met and talked in person,” Brown said. “Collective bargaining is about seeking solutions through dialogue.”
The union plans to vote its members on the tentative agreement some time after Christmas.
