Kansas Teamsters Applaud HB 2315
Kansas Teamsters are lauding the state legislature for the introduction of House Bill 2315, which will extend unemployment insurance to school bus workers employed by private companies.
School bus drivers and their allies from across Kansas met with lawmakers in Topeka on Feb. 17 to make the case for HB 2315. Currently, Kansas is one of the only states in the region where privatized school bus drivers are not eligible to collect unemployment benefits, despite their employers paying into the system. Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly met with school bus drivers who support the legislation when they visited the state capitol earlier this week and has indicated that she is supportive of the bill.
The bipartisan legislation, which is also backed by many private school bus companies, is currently with the Kansas House Committee on Commerce, Labor and Economic Development.
