(LAS VEGAS) — Valets at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas have voted overwhelmingly to join Teamsters Local 986. The 60 valets are the first group of workers to organize with the Teamsters at the newly inaugurated Fontainebleau, which opened in December 2023.
“I’d like to extend my congratulations to these workers for successfully forming their union and voting to become Teamsters by an overwhelming margin,” said Chris Griswold, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 986 and Teamsters International Vice President At-Large. “We welcome them to Local 986 and look forward to helping them negotiate a strong first contract that reflects the exceptional service they provide to visitors at the Fontainebleau every day.”
Workers at the Fontainebleau are organizing with the Teamsters to have a voice at work and to secure higher wages, better benefits, improved job security, and fair working conditions.
“We chose to join the Teamsters to ensure our voices are heard at work and to secure fair wages and benefits,” said Frankie Bruno, a valet at the Fontainebleau and a new member of Local 986. “We’re excited to be part of such a strong union, which will support us in negotiating a great first contract.”
“Valets at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas join thousands of Teamsters working in the casino industry, not only in Vegas, but across the nation,” said Tommy Blitsch, Director of the Teamsters Convention, Trade Show, and Casino Division. “I want to extend a warm welcome to these new members and commend their choice to join our union, which is dedicated to championing the rights of casino workers nationwide.”
Chartered in 1948, Teamsters Local 986 represents workers in a wide variety of industries throughout the Western United States, including thousands of members in Las Vegas. For more information, go to lasvegas.local986.org
