(VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.) – Drivers at Breakthru Beverage in Virginia Beach have voted overwhelmingly to join Teamsters Local 822.

“Breakthru workers in Virginia Beach know that the best way to secure better wages, safer working conditions, and a voice on the job is with a Teamsters contract,” said James Wright, Local 822 President and Teamsters International Vice-President At-Large. “We look forward to fighting alongside them to get these workers the contract they deserve.”

The vote to join Local 822 is the latest success in a series of victories that the union has had at the national beverage distribution conglomerate. In California, the union won a first contract after a successful 24 hour strike. In Florida, Teamsters are currently bargaining a first contract for 160 workers at six different locations.

“The power that you have with the rest of your coworkers will certainly put power behind whatever it is you’re demanding out of your employer,” said Jackson Renager, a Breakthru driver. “Everybody’s trying to nickel and dime their workers these days, and it’s hard to get a living wage. I have to work two jobs at the moment. No American should be having to work two full-time jobs just to stay afloat.”

Teamsters Local 822 represents over 3,000 workers across the Tidewater Area working in a variety of industries. For more information, visit www.teamsters822.com.
