(AVON LAKE, Ohio) – A group of carhaulers in Avon Lake, Ohio, employed by Fleet Transport Corporation has unionized with Teamsters Local 964.
Fleet Transport Corporation was launched recently to fill the void left by Jack Cooper’s bankruptcy, which was caused by the company’s chronic mismanagement and irresponsible corporate practices. These carhaulers previously worked for Jack Cooper and were represented by the Teamsters Union.
Because of the hard work of the Teamsters Carhaul Division, Fleet Transport Corporation voluntarily recognized these workers as Teamsters and signed onto the National Master Automobile Transports Agreement (NMATA).
“We are proud to see another group of former Jack Cooper Teamsters choosing to rejoin our union and get back the benefits and protections of the NMATA,” said Avral Thompson, Director of the Teamsters Carhaul Division and Central Region International Vice President. “What we’re seeing is just the start of the Teamsters Union reclaiming the rightful work of our members.”
This is the second unit of former Jack Cooper carhaulers who have rejoined the Teamsters Union in the last week alone, following workers at Squirrelly LLC in Stone Mountain, Ga., who joined Local 89.
Teamsters Local 964 represents workers in a range of industries throughout Ohio. For more information, visit ibtlocal964.org.
