Local 25 Celebrates Success at Driver Training Program

Local 25 hired a new director for its Driver Training Program on June 1, 2012 and since that time nine drivers who have taken the commercial driver’s license (CDL) class have all passed the test on their first attempt, an unprecedented success rate.

“I am proud of our record at the Driver Training Program and we want to keep the success going under the leadership of our new director, Paul Mathi,” said Sean M. O’Brien, Local 25 President. “We invite Teamsters from all over Massachusetts to take a class at our school.”

The program’s motto is “Training…Our Road to the Future.” Local 25’s Driver Training Program began in 1974 and it is open to all Teamsters who live in Massachusetts.

“We are seeking a federal grant with TMAP (Teamsters Military Assistance Program) that would help Teamster veterans who served in Afghanistan and Iraq to attend our program,” said Mathi, a 29-year Teamster who drove a truck for U.S. Foodservice.

“My philosophy in teaching is to help our trained drivers travel the roads, get the job done and get home safely at the end of the day,” Mathi said.
