Vice President - Western Region

Karla Schumann began her Teamsters career as a rank-and-file UPS package car driver in Arizona. She has been a proud Teamster for over 35 years, including 23 years of service as a business agent. Her firsthand experience in the blistering heat has been a guiding force, motivating her to fight for safer working environments for all Teamsters. 

Schumann served as Vice President of Teamsters Local 104 for nearly a decade before being elected Secretary-Treasurer in 2017, representing more than 9,000 Teamsters across Arizona. Her leadership has driven key advances in organizing, bargaining, and member engagement statewide.

Schumann served on the UPS Teamsters National Negotiating Committee and was instrumental in helping to bargain the 2023 UPS Teamsters National Master Agreement. She played a crucial role in winning major safety improvements at UPS, including air conditioning in 28,000 new vehicles and the retrofitting of fans and heat shields across the entire fleet. She currently chairs the UPS Teamsters Heat Committee.

Schumann also serves as Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Joint Council 3 and a Trustee on both the Teamsters Western Region 177 Health Care and the Arizona Laborers/Teamsters Trust Fund, helping secure strong benefits and protections for workers throughout the region.

On December 2, 2025, Schumann was sworn in as an International Western Region Vice President on the General Executive Board of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters
