Vice President - Southern Region

Thor is a proud third-generation trade unionist and a second-generation Teamster. He began working part time at UPS in 1985. In 1994, he was awarded Local 79’s “Master Steward” title and elected to Local 79’s executive board a year later. He became a full-time business agent in 1999. During his time in Teamster leadership, Johnson has been a delegate to four IBT Conventions and served as a delegate to the Local Central Labor Council and the Florida State AFL-CIO. 

Johnson was a strike captain during the 1997 strike at UPS, and as a business agent, he has a record of standing up to UPS management on the shop floor and at panel. 

Under his leadership at Local 79, Johnson has represented members at numerous companies, including Nabisco, Agrifos, Cutrale Citrus, Americold, Pony Express and UPS. He currently serves as an IBT Southern Region Package representative and is a member of the Southern Region UPS Supplemental Negotiating Committing. He also serves as a member of the UPS/IBT National Negotiating Committee.

On March 22, 2022, Johnson was sworn in as Southern Region Vice President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and appointed Southern Region Package Director.

Johnson is married with two children.
