(RANDOLPH, Mass.) – Charter bus drivers and cleaners with Brush Hill Tours voted 27-1 to become members of Teamsters Local 653 on June 1.

“Congratulations to all of our new members who fought hard for recognition,” said Brian J. McElhinney, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 653 in South Easton, Mass. “I especially want to thank our executive board as well as Sean O’Brien and the executive board of Teamsters Joint Council 10 for everything they did to secure this victory.”

The campaign moved forward quickly, starting only 42 days before the final vote last Thursday.  The workers voted for Teamsters representation to have a strong voice in their workplace and to improve bus safety, according to Local 653 President and Business Agent Bill Trask.

Ed Spear has been a part-time driver at Brush Hills Tours since 2010, and served as an observer during the vote count. He decided to become involved in the organizing drive because of the positive experience he’s had as a Local 653 member with his full-time job at Martignetti’s, a leading New England liquor distributer.

“I’m a proud Teamster, I’ve been a member since 1994,” Spear said. “We’re trying to get a contract together right now, I think everyone will be happy when they see it.”
