Teamsters Local 104 SunTran members voted Saturday, July 8, 2017 for a three (3) year contract with an overwhelming 90% in favor. This contract was the most lucrative, including wage increases, health benefits and new language that will bring added security to the members of SunTran.
Negotiations were progressive, and steady throughout the course of June and ended on July 9, 2017 at 10:00pm. The members were informed and voted the next day.
SunTran members are made up of 540 Coach Operators, Mechanics, Fleet Service Attendants, Fare Box Technicians, Parts Clerks, Facilities Technicians and Custodians.
A historic 42-day strike took place in Tucson between TransDev/SunTran and the Teamsters beginning on August 6 ending on September 16, 2015. Seeking to avoid yet another crippling strike which devastated the community; The negotiating teams worked hard and long to reach an acceptable three (3) year agreement. A three (3) year agreement will impart a sense of long-term security to the community and the SunTran members of Teamsters Local 104.
“Not only do we get a good economic package, we’ve got a 3-year agreement that provides membership stability. It provides the community stability. And, frankly, there were a lot of things that were crafted out of cooperation and out of working together with a common goal of getting something done. I’m not going to say they were easy negotiations. They were long. They were hard. They were cumbersome, but, at the end of the day, all the players got together and made it happen.” Karla Schumann, Secretary-Treasurer
