California Teamsters Send Convoy to Houston with Supplies for Victims of Harvey
(LOS ANGELES & SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.) – Seven trailer trucks loaded with critically-needed supplies left California this morning on a mission of mercy for the victims of hurricane Harvey in the Houston area.
Members from across the state responded to the request for assistance from Teamsters Local 988 in Houston, Texas. Teamsters in Texas are still recovering from the damage and devastation caused by the Category 4 hurricane that caused massive flooding in the Houston metro area. Joint Council 7 in San Francisco and Joint Council 42 in Los Angeles coordinated the effort.
“Teamsters in the state of California, North and South, filled up seven trailers with much needed items for the members and people in Houston,” said Rome Aloise, Joint Council 7 President. “It is more evidence of how our union takes care of our own and others and can do so with very little notice. I salute everyone who worked incredibly hard to get this done is such short notice.”
The convoy, which is comprised of Teamster trucks from Las Vegas, San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco, left this morning and is receiving a police escort through two states on its way to Houston. The same Locals and Joint Councils coordinated a similar effort for the victims of Katrina in 2005.
“It always feels good to do what you can for our brother and sisters and other victims of this horrible storm,” said Randy Cammack, President of Joint Council 42 in Pomona, Calf. “I know that these supplies will be put to good use.”
