In the latest development with the Teamsters Military Assistance Program (TMAP), the union has officially partnered with the Department of Defense’s Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP) to help the spouses of active-duty or retired military personnel find high-quality jobs.

The unemployment rate of military spouses is six times the national average. This new partnership between the Teamsters and MSEP will work to fill the gap in working family income. The Teamsters have identified FirstGroup, the largest Teamster employer in the passenger transportation industry, as an ideal partner in the effort to help support the spouses of active duty and retired military personnel by offering them good jobs under a Teamster contract.

“We believe that jobs in school transportation are a perfect fit for the spouses of military personnel that need the flexibility in schedule and want to remain close to home,” said Rick Middleton, International Vice President and Director of the Passenger Transportation Division. “And we’ve found a good partner in FirstGroup, which has a strong record of working with the union.”

FirstGroup, the largest school bus transportation company in the North America, has hundreds of Teamster bus yards across the U.S. and Canada, many of which are close to military installations.

The Teamsters Freight Division is actively working with TMAP to train and connect active duty and retired military personnel with job opportunities at ABF. Partnering with MSEP and FirstGroup brings TMAP closer to the goal of supporting the military family as a whole.
