Organizing Airline

WHEREAS, 80,000 Teamster airline members are a key part of the transportation industry and the global supply chain; and

WHEREAS, the union has a significant number of air cargo pilots and has  recently organized airline pilots at Allegiant Air, OneSky Flight, Travel Management Company and Kalitta Charters; and

WHEREAS, the IBT worked with the Communications Workers of America to organize the passenger service agents of American Airlines after it merged with  US Airways, protecting 2,000 Teamster jobs and adding 1,200 more; and

WHEREAS, the Teamsters are a major airline mechanics union, and the  Teamsters Aviation Mechanics Coalition represents aviation mechanics at United, ExpressJet, Frontier, Horizon Air, NetJets, Piedmont Airlines and UPS and is a major voice in the industry; and

WHEREAS, the Teamsters are currently in the process of working with Spirit Airline mechanics in an organizing campaign to bring them Teamster representation.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED at this 29th International Convention that the Teamsters will continue to seek opportunities to organize more airline workers, such as the mechanics at Spirit Airlines, and grow power for our members and all who work in this vital industry.
