  • Global Defense Workers Join Teamsters

    Workers with BAE Systems in Hawaii have voted overwhelming, 23-2, in favor of joining Local 996 in Honolulu. The 26 workers are responsible for a number of high-security operations, including transporting military personnel for deployment actions; hauling heavy equipment, weapons and ammunition; and providing logistical support.

  • Party Rental Workers Join Teamsters

    Workers at a large party rental company in the Midwest are celebrating their new membership in the Teamsters, after a vote in favor of joining Local 710 in Chicago.

    The drivers, helpers, erectors, linen and warehouse workers for Classic Party Rentals perform a variety of tasks in setting up for special occasions. From transporting equipment to erecting tents, the 128 workers can be found working major national events like the Kentucky Derby and NASCAR races.

  • TEAMSTERS WIN BIG VICTORY IN HOUSTON

    First Transit airport shuttle drivers in Houston have voted overwhelmingly to join the Teamsters. The drivers voted 65-10 on July 17 and are now represented by Teamsters Local 968. There are 124 workers in the bargaining unit.

    The drivers play an integral part at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport, providing transportation to both the public and to airport workers. Continental Airlines’ ramp service workers often take the shuttle to their workplaces. The Teamsters recently launched a campaign to help the 8,000 ramp service workers form a union.

  • Ohio First Transit Drivers Choose Teamsters

    First Transit in Xenia, Ohio who provides transportation services for people with mental and physical disabilities have voted to join the Teamsters.

    On June 30, the workers voted 20-12 to join the union. There are 38 workers in the bargaining unit who are now represented by Teamsters Local 957 in Dayton, Ohio.

    Gloria Daye, a driver for three years, said the workers knew they needed to do something to change the atmosphere of favoritism.

    “Now we have a way to deal with workplace issues and a strong voice to represent us,” Daye said.

  • Chula Vista, California Public Transit Drivers Vote To Join Teamsters

    Public transit drivers in Chula Vista, California, voted 60-0 to join the Teamsters. There are 67 drivers in the bargaining unit, represented by Local 683 in San Diego.

    The campaign started last November, with the drivers seeking better representation to deal with issues of respect in the workplace, inequality of wages and lack of communication. The election was held June 30 but the votes were not tallied until July 17.

  • Winter Park, Florida Police Officers Join Teamsters

    Police officers in Winter Park voted overwhelmingly to join the Teamsters. The results of Tuesday’s election were 32-18. The officers will be members of Teamsters Local 385 in Orlando. There are 67 officers in the bargaining unit.

    The Winter Park officers are the latest group of Florida law enforcement officers to join the Teamsters. Monroe County Corrections officers and Panama City police officers also recently voted to join the Teamsters.

  • City Workers In Coral Gables Vote Overwhelmingly To Join Teamsters

    General service workers for the city of Coral Gables, Florida, have voted overwhelmingly to join the Teamsters.

    During Tuesday’s election, the Teamsters got 240 votes, the Coral Gables Employees Association got 37 votes and seven workers voted for no representation. There are roughly 400 workers in the bargaining unit representing a wide variety of employees who are now members of Teamsters Local 769. Police officers and firefighters are not included in this bargaining unit.
