Midwest Transportation & Logistics Workers Join Local 330
On July 28, drivers who haul garbage to transfer stations and landfills, voted to join Local 330 in Elgin, Illinois. There are 45 drivers in the bargaining unit.
“After the local union filed for the election on June 17, the company initiated an aggressive anti-union campaign which included mandatory weekly captive-audience meetings attempting to dissuade employees from voting for the union,” said Dominic Romanazzi, Local 330 President.
The company’s anti-union tactics failed, with a majority of workers voting to form their union.
“The unity and determination of this group has paid off as they succeeded in gaining a true voice at the company and bargaining table,” Romanazzi said. “Local 330 looks forward to negotiating and securing a legal and binding contract that will improve working conditions, provide security, fairness and opportunity for our 45 new members.”
