Hoffa: USTR Nominee Lighthizer May Signal Positive Change in Future U.S. Trade Policy
(WASHINGTON) – The following is a statement from Teamsters General President James P. Hoffa on the nomination of Robert Lighthizer for USTR by President-elect Donald Trump.
“With the nomination of Robert Lighthizer to be the U.S. Trade Representative, President-elect Trump has laid the groundwork for following through on his campaign promise to end the U.S. trade policies that have devastated working families for the past 30 years.
“Lighthizer has been an outspoken opponent of the so-called ‘free-trade’ agenda his entire career, standing apart from other Republican trade advisors who have remained in lockstep with the party’s ill-advised views on trade. It is our hope that as USTR under President-elect Trump, Lighthizer will enact policies that help our working families by strengthening U.S. industry and bringing back good-paying jobs to our country.”
