Teamsters to Picket at Levi’s Stadium

(OAKLAND, Calif.) – Teamsters Local 853 will picket at Levi’s Stadium in the days leading up to the Saturday, Aug. 19 pre-season San Francisco 49ers game versus the Denver Broncos.

The Teamsters have represented the vendors at the 49ers for the last 50 years and the contractor that is now performing the vending work is refusing to sign a standard agreement with the union.

Many of the former workers and members of Local 853 have not been hired and are not working at Levi’s Stadium. The contract proposal offered by the contractor Fanatics is substandard to the contracts workers have with the San Francisco Giants, Oakland A’s, Oakland Raiders and Oakland Warriors.

“It is unfortunate that the 49ers and their contractor would undermine the security of our many members who in some cases have worked for them for 40 years. We are simply asking for the same conditions that other sporting venues offer. Delay and game playing are what we are suffering now at the hands of this new contractor, Fanatics,” said Rome Aloise, Principal Officer of Teamsters Local 853 and International Vice President.

Aloise said picketing may begin before the Aug. 19 gameday because “we want Teamsters who deliver many of the goods and services to the stadium and members of other unions to know how our members are being treated.”

Teamsters Local 853 represents over 11,000 members in Northern California.
