(CHICAGO) — On Nov. 9, school bus drivers at First Student in Chicago voted 67-6 to join Teamsters Local 777. The drivers will join hundreds of First Student school bus workers currently represented by Local 777.

The Teamsters Union represents tens of thousands of hardworking school bus drivers, aides, monitors and attendants nationwide.

The Chicago drivers will immediately be covered by the existing First Student National Master Agreement, which provides workers with industry-leading job protections. A local supplemental agreement will be negotiated to cover wages, benefits and additional work protections.

The Chicago area has become a mecca for private school bus companies — all of the industry’s largest bus companies have locations in Chicago and the surrounding area.

Representing more than 2,500 school bus workers, Local 777 is a leader among Teamster local unions across the country, bringing real representation to men and women in the trade.

The staff of Local 777 is excited to welcome the newest Teamster members from First Student to the union.

“These hardworking men and women mobilize our future generations,” said James T. Glimco, President of Local 777 and Trustee of Teamsters Joint Council 25. “They more than deserve a fair slice of the pie and we are proud to represent them.”

Teamsters Local 777 is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, America’s premier labor union for Chicago, Illinois and northwest Indiana.

Founded in 1903, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters represents 1.4 million hardworking men and women throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. For more information, please visit www.teamster.org.
